Types Of Pillar Content

Posted on | July 23, 2008 |

I have read Yaro Starak’s ebook “The Blog Profits Blueprints and learned that there certain type of content that can be a “Pillar Content” even without noticing it. By the way, what are Pillar Contents for? These are types of blog contents that will be the basis for your readers to determine what kind of a blog they are reading? And these Pillar Contents will be responsible for building up your backlinks and will continue to generate traffic over time. So that why Pillar Contents are very important in creating your blog identity.

So what are the types of Pillar Content?

  1. “How To” Article - These posts are very rampant in the blogosphere. Many are showing tips on “how to do this and that”. For example, a “Culinary Blog” posted a content on “How To Bake a Chicken“. (What?! Baking a chicken?!) I really don’t think thats possible but thats an example of a “Hot To” article. Its easy to make one if you know how to do something.
  2. Definition Article - There are many terms in each industry that new bloggers don’t know. So naturally a new blogger will seek a definition that best describe a term he doesn’t know. Thats where you will come in with your definition article. Your post can a glossary definition page on your blog. It is very handful if you will give your own definition to the term and add a story to it. It will show credibility and trust to the readers.
  3. Present a Theory or Argument - This type of pillar content is very suitable for political blogs. The important thing here is to give you own thought about a theory but try not to rehash what others have said. The objective of this kind of post is to stimulate discussions amongst readers and also for you, and create a buzz in the niche you are in.
  4. Resource Content or Free Report - This type of content teaches your readers how to do something. And there are two options you can from in doing this. First is a series of posts(posts that have continuations), or an ebook. The later option is the most recommendable because its easy to proliferate. Creating an interesting content and then making it available for download in your blog. And then the readers may send it others via email and the process goes on. One thing which is good in this type of pillar content is it demonstrates your expertise and brings in consistent traffic.
  5. List Article - The type of content that new bloggers love. Making their own favorite list and linking to other blog and thus it is a way of link building. Lists are easily digested in the minds of the readers so the one who have already read it will come back again to another look for it. Some examples of it are Top Five Free Email Services and Top Ten Most Stolen Cars.
  6. Technical Blueprint Articles - This is very much like a “How To” article but the difference is this type of content uses graphical representation tool such as graphs, spreadsheets and images. Personally, its easier to attract readers to use images than using only words, but also the title of your posts should be the most important. Because it is in the frontline of your blog to the readers, this is my own opinion as a Marketing Graduate.
